A Sunday ride

Well hello

Back again... yeah well I did get out for a ride this morning had so much to do today so opted for just a 20 k ride.... doesnt really matter how far you go as along as you go... does that make sense... well thats ok if you don't but thats my way of thinking...

So off I headed it was a little cool but I soon warmed up... you know we had a lot of rain earlier in the year and I truly appreciate all the rain, but the roads didn't.... so many pot holes and they are like canyons and boy is fun missing them especially with the road bike because there ain't any suspension just your butt..... since our labour leaders decided in their stupid wisdom to merge councils our area just doesn't exist anymore the roads are truly bad... oh well not much point wingeing but I shall next time I do see a councillor in town.. which isn't very often.

Anyway back to the ride it was a glorious morning this morning and I do live in such a beautiful area... so really I couldn't ask for better.... except the stupid neighbour next door continually overtakes me only leaving about 6 inches room bloody terrifying... if I see him in town too I will have a quiet word... I am sorry but its really annoys me there wasn't another car coming so why not go out a bit and give us both some room. I know my bike isn't registered as I hear often if you don't pay for the road you shouldn't be using it... i truly get sick of hearing that... I do pay rego for 3 vehicles, car, ute and cattle truck and I figure I am entitled.... plus I have joined bicycle qld which covers me for any liability to other vehicles plus accident insurance.

Now where was I yead potholes yep mentioned those now what about the road kills yeah... poor hares... such silly lovely creatures but are continually getting hit on the roads very sad.... so its advisable not to breathe in when passing the odd hare or fox who have passed on.

The only thing that really frightens me is what do I do if I meet a snake... I mean do I run over it and hope it doesn't flick back and get me or do I hit the brakes and end up splattered on the road or landing on top of it.... one wonders I suppose I really won't have the answer for that until I actually have met one..

Riding with someone is what I really would love to do.... anyway the ride this morning was great I reach my 10k point which is a property where we have sold a bull so the lovely folks where there with their cattle in the yard and invited me in for a look see. Nice people. So I had a break before heading home well about 30 minutes actually. Bit hard to talk to them and see them as my glasses kept fogging up. Headed back home and met a car coming the other way with flashing lights behind him was four cyclists all in identical gear obviously competing in a ride event.... further again and another lot came along they all said hi as they went past which was really good.

I was struggling at this point as a good wind had picked up and I was riding into it.... the ones going the other way had the tail wind lucky them.... got to my road and pulled up as their were two marshals showing the way for the cyclists and had chat with them. It was a challenge ride for anyone 100k from Peak Crossing to Mt Alford and back again... doing a big loop. I admire them so much having the conviction and fitness to do such a big ride. ... When they come down the hill near our road they clock up about 90k... it such a huge hill not many ride up it its too bad its called heartbreak hill by the school kids. One local rider hit a roo coming down the hill one day he was a mess I believe he is recovering but I just don't like to even think about how bad that could be.

The fastest I have come down a hill near home is 45k... and thats fast enough for me.... I do brake so I don't go too fast.... I know I am a bit of a wimp but thats life and thats me.

Got home a ride that shouldn't have taken 40 mins max had taken me 1 hr 30 mins... oh well the chats contributed to that... but thats fine.... I am a friendly sort and its all about enjoying my ride .

Arriving home my brother in law was here he is the one funding our trip to England in June... Philip came up and showed concern I knew he would be worried because he always checks the time and knows how long it takes me... to ride to work or home.

We weighed our cattle for the shows to see how the steers are progressing with their feed etc... then we walked all over our paddocks and I needed to take some photos for someone who we brought a bull from... so I am really stuffed now sitting here writing this but a good feeling because i know I got off my butt and did something today... so now all i have to do is keep it up tomorrow...

Not happy with myself I have to lose more weight photos still aren't looking good and England is looming... when we weighed the cattle today Philip jumped on the scales he has lost another 5kg... when see what he eats and what I don't I wonder how come.... I know he works hard around the place but he must be thinking about his weight these days as I don't know what he eats when I am at work.. whatever he is doing its working he is now 96.5 and I don't think he has ever been below 100k since we have been together.... well done my dear man.

I know where I am failing I am not drinking enough water.... and I am not doing enough cardio... do we ever have a chance in our lives of not having to worry about this anymore.... I know its a lifetime change I have made and I won't go back... but geez sometimes it would be nice not to have to think about it....

cheers....

Liz
